What is a root canal treatment?

When a tooth has decay and left untreated it will progress to the middle part of the tooth that contains the nerves and blood vessels. If infection reaches to the root canal, symptoms will start to appear. The severity of the symptoms depends on the severity of the infection. Symptoms include teeth pain when chewing, high sensitivity with hot or cold stimuli, and inflammation of the gum around the tooth when the infection is severe. To prevent the infection from spreading and causing severe pain, a root canal treatment is needed.

In Root Canal treatment, the dentist cleans and disinfects the root canal system using special instruments. After that, the root canal system will be filled with a bio-compatible material to decrease the chance of further bacterial growth.
